I one time read this quote about choosing what hard we want in our life. This quote talks about how each choice we make has some level of difficulty to it. Reflecting on my life, this couldn’t be more true. Every choice has a complex and difficult scenario attached to it. This quote went on to talk about the diversity of choices that we have in life from tiny choices to massive life-altering decisions. In each choice, we can choose what spectrum of hard we want to fall on.
We can say we want to reach a goal. But it’s all in our actions and choosing to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations to do the hard thing. I have found that most of my success has come from uncomfortable, unknown, and uncertain situations. Coming out of high school, I decided to go to a community college in South Florida. To be honest, I did not want to go to community college. I didn’t want to stay home. I didn’t want to say that I went to a community college. I wanted to experience the college life. I wanted to move out. I wanted to go to a new city and say that I went to a four-year college. I am SO glad I did not act on my wants.
Looking back on the past four years, each hard decision that I made shaped my future. Staying home was a hard decision for me. However, it was during this time at community college that I really went outside of my comfort zone and put myself out there. In this two-year timeframe, this is when I interned for the Broward County Athletic Association, worked with Rivals.com, was the Editor in Chief of the Broward College student newspaper, interned for Broward College Athletics, began interning for Inter Miami in communications, etc. All of that is to say that these opportunities would not have been possible without my decision to go to Broward College.
Do the hard thing. Do the thing that you’re scared. That is where there is the most reward, the biggest success and the opportunity to learn. I am cheering you on.
Until next time,
Ari
